Our courses are led by Vijay who has been practicing for over 45 years and has decades of experience as a yoga teacher. Teacher Training Courses are offered in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, Power Yoga, and Hatha Yoga.

Our 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour courses exceed all curriculum requirements for Yoga Alliance USA Registered Yoga Schools. These courses are held throughout the year in Goa and Dharamsala.

Teacher Training Daily Schedule:

  • 06:00 AM – 07:00 AM Meditation / Pranayama
  • 07:00 AM – 09:00 AM Mysore Style Practice
  • 08:45 AM – 10:35 AM Asana / Correction Class
  • Break
  • 12:30 PM – 04:00 PM Methodology / Philosophy/ Patanjali Yoga Sutra/ Physiology/ Anatomy
  • Break
  • 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Asana Special topics: Backbending/Hip opening/Vinyasa/Arm balancing
  • 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM Asana / Correction class
  • 6:35 PM – 7:05 PM Mantra chanting
  • Day Ends
  • Sunday is a free day

There is a written test on Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Yoga Philosophy, and Anatomy at the end of the course. Each student will has to demonstrate a proper class in front of Vijay.

RYS 200 Hour Certification

Our comprehensive 200-hour teacher trainings are an in-depth journey for two groups: dedicated students who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga, and those who hope to become yoga teachers. It’s an extraordinary opportunity designed to inform both your practice and your life. Taking one of these trainings is widely considered the first step towards teaching yoga, as either selfless service or a profession. Our curriculum exceeds Yoga Alliance standards, and upon completion students may register at the RYT-200 level.

RYS 300 Hour Certification

Our 300-hour teacher training is designed to help you become a leader and/or professional in your yoga community. You know the basics of leading a yoga class – now develop your authentic voice, refine your teaching skills and start offering your students more intelligent, effective and inspiring offerings. Graduation from a Yoga Alliance-registered 200hr teacher training is a prerequisite for this program.

RYS 500 Hour Certification

Our 500 hour program allows you to combine the Yoga Alliance 200 hour and 300 hour requirements into a single course. This option represents a deep commitment to the yogic path and will prepare you to teach within your community. Upon completion, you will be eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance and teach at the RYT-500 level. Once registered, an RYT-500 may provide credit-bearing continuing education classes and workshops to other yoga teachers.

* If not booked 50 days in advance there will be a INR 5000 surcharge. The full course amount is due by the starting date or at minimum half of the course amount with the balance due within three days.

Lead Instructor & Program Director

Vijay Amar, born in 1956, has been practicing yoga for more than 45 years and teaching for over 20 years. He is an E-RYT 500 hours certified instructor with Yoga Alliance USA and has accrued over 30,000 teaching hours.Vijay established Universal Yoga Centre on the 5th of September, 1993. read more

Dr. Ganesh Rao, Ph.D
Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Sutras, Bhagwad Gita Instructor

Dr. Rao is psychologist philosopher who explains the basic concept of yoga in a profundity and simplicity. His expertise and endeavors are geared towards enabling the adherent to transcend the physical, mental, psychological and intellectual aspects while aiming for the ultimate purpose for which Yoga authentically stands. To date, Dr. Rao has conducted more than 13500 sessions of Yoga covering both the theory and practice of all aspects of Yoga catering towards health and healing.

Dr. Amritha Shama, Ph.D - Ayurvedic Doctor
Yoga Anatomy & Physiology Instructor

Dr. Sharma leads the yoga anatomy and physiology portions of the course. After aa classical Ayurvedic medicine education her passion for the field inspired further studies and research into herbal medicine, naturopathy, and yoga. She has taught thousands of aspiring yoga teachers through her lectures on Ayurveda, naturopathy, chakra healing, meditation, and yoga. She believes that true health transcends beyond the physical body and reflects one’s mental agility and spiritual wellbeing – something that can only be achieved through yoga.

Aravind Muthupet, RYT 500
Yoga Instructor

Arvind is Vijay’s longtime student and apprentice. He is an advanced practitioner and RYT 500 certified instructor. Arvind leads our hatha classes and rounds out the teacher training team.
